Barons Take First-Ever Meeting With Rivermen 3-1
The Oklahoma City Barons defeated the Peoria Rivermen 3-1 in their
first-ever meeting on Saturday night at Carver Arena in front of
5,980. The new affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers broke a 1-1 tie in the
third and had 17 saves from Martin Gerber to extend their winning streak
to four games.
For Peoria it was their third straight loss and now sits at 7-4-0-0 and
third place in the West Division, while the Barons improved to 7-4-1-0
and second place.
Chris Porter put the Rivermen on the board just 2:45 into the
first period with a power-play goal through the legs of Oklahoma City
goaltender Martin Gerber. Porter received a pass from Adam Cracknell,
at the top of the circle before closing in on Gerber and shoveling the
puck through Gerber’s five-hole from the side of the net. The goal ended
a six-game stretch in which the Rivermen had not scored a power-play
