Admirals Hold Off Rivermen 2-1
Peoria’s potent offense was held in check again on Saturday as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Milwaukee Admirals. Jonathan Cheechoo scored Peoria’s only of the game while Ben Bishop made 29 saves in front of 6,413 at Carver Arena.
The Rivermen dropped to 5-6-1-1 on the season and have lost both meetings with the Admirals this year.
Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead at 14:09 of the first period on a Ryan Ellis took a slapshot from the point. Michael Latta and Ben Ryan were given assists on the play.
At 13:09 of the second period, Cheechoo scored on the man advantage to make it a 1-1 contest. Jani Lajenen was attempting to carry the puck out of the slot when Cheechoo swatted the puck into the goal for an unassisted tally.
At just 1:07 of the third period, the Admirals took the lead for good with a power-play goal. Juuso Puustinen made a cross-ice pass to Kyle Wilson who wristed the puck into an open net past a diving Bishop.
The Rivermen had 32 shots on goal and went 1-for-5 on the powerplay while the Admirals fired 31 shots on goal and converted once on three power-play opportunities.
The Rivermen will play host to the Rockford IceHogs on Friday at 7 p.m. All military personal will receive a free ticket by showing a valid Military ID at the Peoria Civic Center box office on the day of game.
