Power Play Propels Rivermen to 4-0 Victory
The Peoria Rivermen scored three power-play goals en route to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday night at Carver Arena. T.J. Hensick (1g, 1a), Brett Sterling (1g, 1a) and Danny Syvret all registered multipoint games to lead the Rivermen to their fourth win in their past five games.
The Rivermen scored three times in the first 20 minutes to chase goaltender Atte Engren from the net and then relied on 33 saves from Jake Allen the rest of the way.
Peoria’s first shot on goal found the back of the net, and it came off the stick of Hensick while on the power play. With a scrum to the left of Engren when the puck squirted to a wide open Hensick and he slammed in his 12th of the season.
Milwaukee answered quickly on a power play of their own at the 7:48 mark of when Juuso Puustinen’s wrist shot from the right circle went through the legs of Allen. It was Puustinen’s 12th of the year and was assisted by Michael Latta and Blake Geoffrion.
Derek Nesbitt kept the streak of power-play goals going when he fired a one-timer by Engren with the Rivermen on a five-on-three advantage at the 16:18 mark. The Rivermen closed out the first period scoring with under a minute remaining when Sterling put a stick on Syvret’s wrist-shot from the The goal gave Sterling 15 on the year, which moved him into a tie for the team lead with Phil McRae.
After a scoreless second, Chris Mueller cut into the Peoria lead with his 15th of the year with 2:30 remaining in the game, but Anthony Nigro’s empty netter capped off a 4-2 win for the Rivermen.
Allen stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced to grab his third win of the year while the Rivermen went 3-for-6 on the power play in the game.
