Rivermen Rally Back Twice to Top Milwaukee 4-2
Just one night after setting a season-high in
shots with 47, the Peoria Rivermen were held to a season-low 15 but finished
with the same result as they beat the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 on Sunday at the
Bradley Center. Brett Sterling scored
two goals, to give him 20 on the year, while his linemate T.J. Hensick chipped
in with three assists.
The win was the fifth straight victory for
Peoria against Milwaukee to even the season series at 5-5-0.
The Admirals scored the only goal of the first
period with just 16.2 seconds remaining in the frame. Taylor Beck forced a pass to the crease for
Chris Mueller who lifted his 22nd of the season over the glove of
Adam Cracknell responded for Peoria just 55
seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Phil McRae and Jonathan
Cheechoo earned assists as Cracknell walked down the wall and ripped one off
the far-post and in for his 13th of the season.
Milwaukee regained the lead at 10:37 when
Mueller picked up his second point by finding Zack Stortini just outside the crease.
The Rivermen tied the game once again as Sterling
was able to get the shaft of his stick on a shot from Cade Fairchild and
deflect the puck past Atte Engren at 13:25.
Sterling found the back of the net again, just
3:17 later, while on the power play to give the Rivermen their first lead of
the game. Hensick slipped a pass into the crease for Sterling who kicked it to
his stick before he slipped it into the open net.
Derek Nesbitt added an empty-netter late in the
third period to close out the scoring and secure a 4-2 win for Peoria.
