Rivermen Top Wolves for Third Straight Win
For the second night in a row, the Peoria Rivermen topped the Chicago Wolves as they picked up a 3-2 win for their third straight victory on Saturday night at Allstate Arena. Sergey Andronov broke a 2-2 tie with 10:39 remaining in the third period while Jake Allen made 25 saves for the win.
The Rivermen (5-7-2-1) have earned a point in all four meetings this season with Chicago (3-0-1-0).
Chicago took lead at 4:43 of the first period on a goal by Steve Pinizzotto but the Rivermen responded with two goals of their own before the end of the period. Sebastian Wannstrom scored his first AHL goal just 4 minutes later, at 8:33. Both Jaden Schwartz and Mark Cundari assisted that goal. Peoria took the lead at 12:41 when T.J. Hensick banked one past Matt Climie from behind the net. The Rivermen nearly took a commanding lead on a power-play goal from Phil McRae at the close of the frame but after a video review it was determined that time had expired before the puck crossed the line.
Chicago tied the score early in the second period on a goal by Andrew Gordon at 3:40. Following a Rivermen power play, Gordon came out of the box and finished a two-on-one rush with Darren Haydar.
Adronov’s game-winner was his second goal of the season. Brent Regner’s shot was tipped on goal by Cody Beach and Andronov slammed in the rebound to give Peoria the lead.
Chicago outshot Peoria 27-21 and both teams finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Rivermen head to Rockford to take on the IceHogs on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
