Third Period Leads to Fourth Straight Win
Peoria scored three third
period goals in a span of 3:26 Saturday night in their 3-1 victory over the
Milwaukee Admirals in front of 6,883 fans at Carver Arena. Sergey Andronov,
Evgeny Grachev, and T.J. Hensick all scored goals while Mike McKenna stopped 26
of the 27 to lead the Rivermen to their fourth consecutive win.
The Rivermen improved to 11-11-2-2
to leap over Milwaukee in the standings and move within two points of the
Midwest Division lead.
The first goal of the
contest didn’t come until the 4:04 mark of the third frame. Michael Latta came
into the offensive zone with the puck, and wristed it over the glove Mike
McKenna to score his fifth goal of the season. Mark Van Guilder earned the lone
assist of the play.
With 4:26 remaining in
the third period, Andronov scored his fifth goal of the year to tie the game at
1-1. Mark Cundari took a slap shot from the point that was tipped past Magnus
Hellberg by Andronov. Anthony Peluso also assisted on the tying marker.
Grachev scored the
eventual winner with 1:55 to play. From the right faceoff dot, Grachev wristed
the puck past Hellberg’s blocker for his fourth tally of the season. The goal
Hensick scored an empty
net goal with 1:00 remaining to make it a 3-1 affair.
The Rivermen fired 37
shots on net, while allowing 27 Milwaukee shots. Peoria went 0-for-4 on the
