Rivermen Freeze Heat 4-1
The Peoria Rivermen took the first six shots of the game, scored 2:15 in, and was able to control the tempo throughout against the Abbotsford Heat in their 4-1 victory Friday evening at Carver Arena. Adam Cracknell scored a goal and added an assist in his second multi-point game this month.
The Rivermen came flying out of the gate, scoring a goal on the third shot of the game. Sergey Andronov put a shot towards the net that Cody Beach deflected the puck past Danny Taylor for his second goal of the season. Cracknell also earned an assist on the play.
In the second period, Peoria earned two penalties within 5 seconds of each other. On the five-on-three advantage, Ben Walter scored his ninth goal of the season past Mike McKenna. Krys Kolanos and Brett Carson earned assists on the power-play goal.
After the Heat tied the score, the Rivermen were able to respond with two more goals in the second period. First, Anthony Nigro passed the puck from the right circle to a crashing Brett Sonne, who earned his fifth goal of the season at 12:32. Four minutes later, while on the power play, Jeff Woywitka's shot the puck from the blue line and Chris Porter redirected it into the back of the net, scoring his seventh goal of the season at 16:32. T.J. Hensick also was credited with an assist on Porter's goal.
In the third period, Cracknell earned his 13th goal of the year on an empty net at 19:51. Taylor Chorney and Brent Regner earned an assist on the empty-net goal that traveled the length of the ice.
Peoria scored on its only power-play opportunity as Abbotsford went 1-for-3 on the man advantage. The Rivermen outshot the Heat 34-25 in the game.
