MURRAY AND McKENNA LEAD RIVERMEN PAST 'HOGS
Andrew Murray scored
twice and Mike McKenna made 36 saves, for his fourth shutout of the year, as
the Rivermen won 4-0 over the Rockford IceHogs Wednesday night at Carver Arena.
Peoria finished the 2012-2013 campaign with a 5-7-0 record against Rockford.
Murray scored the first
goal of the contest but it wasn't until the 4:18 of the middle frame. From
inside the right circle, Murray took a wrist shot that clanked off the right
post and into the net. Yannick Veilleux and Taylor Chorney assisted on Murray’s
first tally of the evening.
With 2:48 remaining in
the second period Nathan Longpre, who was acquired from Chicago on Tuesday, scored
in his first Rivermen game to give Peoria a 2-0 lead. Longpre cut to the front
of the goal from the boards, and was able beat Henrik Karlsson between the legs
for the goal. Tyler Shattock and McKenna earned assists on Longpre’s fifth goal
of the year.
Murray was awarded a
penalty shot after he was hauled down on a breakaway at 3:25 of the third
period. On the penalty shot, Murray came in with speed and fired a shot that
beat Karlsson five-hole. The goal was Murray’s second of the game and 14th
of the season.
Jeff Woywitka scored his
first goal of the season into an empty with 2:19 left in regulation.
