Home Opener Will Be October 8

Peoria Rivermen Chief Operating Officer Jason Penning has announced six guaranteed dates for the 2011-12 American Hockey League schedule. The Rivermen will open the home portion of their seventh AHL season on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Carver Arena.

Brent Thompson Named Bridgeport Head Coach

Brent Thompson, who served as an assistant coach in Peoria for four seasons, has been named the head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

Blues Select Eight Players in NHL Draft

St. Louis Acquires Evgeny Grachev from Rangers

St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Saturday the club has acquired Evgeny Grachev from the New York Rangers in exchange for a third round draft choice. He spent most of last season with the Hartford Wolfpack/Connecticut Whale.

Mark Reeds Added to Senators Coaching Staff

Mark Reeds, who coached the ECHL Rivermen from 1996-99, was hired as an assistant coach by the NHL's Ottawa Senators. He joins head coach Paul MacLean and goaltender coach Rick Wamsley as former Rivermen coaches now working in Ottawa.

Tim Taylor Hired as Blues Director of Player Development

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Tim Taylor has joined the St. Louis Blues organization as Director of Player Development. He will work with the Blues prospects in Peoria and through the amateur ranks.

Blues Sign Second-Round Pick Sebastian Wannstrom

The Blues have signed 20-year-old Sebastian Wannstrom from Brynas IF Galve of the Swedish Elite League. He as drafted by St. Louis in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Derek Nesbitt Signs for 2011-12

Derek Nesbitt joined the Rivermen last season on a tryout basis and never looked back. With 42 points in 55 games, Nesbitt has earned a contract for the 2011-12 season.

Paul MacLean Named Ottawa Senators Head Coach

Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced Tuesday the hiring of Paul MacLean as the club's head coach. MacLean was the head coach of the IHL Peoria Rivermen from 1993-96 and was named the Hockey News Minor League Coach of the Year in 1994.

Chris Porter Re-Signs with Blues

Chris Porter, who has appeared in 270 career games with Peoria, has resigned with the St. Louis Blues. This season he played in 36 games for the Rivermen and totaled 20 points.

AHL Returning to St. John's, N.L.

American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that the league's Board of Governors has unanimously approved the relocation of the AHL franchise owned by True North Sports & Entertainment Ltd. from Winnipeg to St. John's, N.L., to begin play there with the 2011-12 season.

Blues Extend Nikita Nikitin for One Year

Leading Scorer Returns for Encore

All-star center TJ Hensick has been signed to a two-year contract extension by the St. Louis Blues. Last season, he led the Rivermen in assists and points while he was among the AHL leaders in both categories.
