PREVIEW: RIVERMEN BEGIN/END YEAR VS. THUNDER

The Peoria Rivermen (10-9-3) will say goodbye to 2013 and ring in the New Year with back-to-back games against the Bloomington Thunder (8-15-0). The two teams have already met seven times this year, with Peoria holding a 6-1-0 advantage.

RIVERMEN LOSE KEY FORWARDS FOR A SECOND TIME

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Monday that forwards Garrett Vermeersch (Fort Wayne) and Parker Stanfield (Florida) have each been called up to the ECHL for the second time this season. In response, Dean Yakura has been activated from the injured reserve.

PREVIEW: RIVERMEN HIT THE ROAD

Thursday will be the first-ever meeting between the Rivermen and Cottonmouths (8-12-1), who will face each other four times this season including a pair of games at Carver Arena February 7 and 8. On Saturday, Peoria will travel to Huntsville and battle the Havoc for the fourth and final time during the regular season.

CHIASSON RELEASED FOLLOWING TRYOUT

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel has announced that winger Paul Chiasson has been released following his three-game tryout. In addition, Corey Tamblyn has been signed to a contract, while Alex Mentink has been placed on the 30-day injured reserve with an upper body injury as of Saturday.

VERMEERSCH NAMED EASTON PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Peoria's Garrett Vermeersch has been named the Easton Player of the Week for December 16-22. Vermeersch scored four goals, two on the power play, and added four assists as the Rivermen took two of three games from Bloomington this past weekend.

RIVERMEN AND THUNDER OPEN THREE-GAME SERIES FRIDAY

The Rivermen (7-6-3) currently hold a perfect 4-0 record against the Thunder (5-13-0) heading into their first every three-in-three series against each other. Overall, the two teams will play a total of 17 times this season, with nine of those meetings coming at Carver Arena.

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel has announced that forwards Garrett Vermeersch and Parker Stanfield have each cleared waivers and will return to Peoria following their ECHL call-ups last week. In addition, key defenseman Tyler Amburgey has been activated from the 30-day injured reserve, while winger Tyler Pilmore has been waived.
