Blues Assign Tyson Strachan; Recall TJ Hensick

St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has recalled forward T.J. Hensick from the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen, on emergency basis, and have assigned defenseman Tyson Strachan.  St. Louis has also come to terms with defenseman David Shields.  

 

Strachan, 26, has dressed in four games for the Rivermen this season posting one assist.  The 6’2, 215-pound defenseman has also appeared in 29 games for the Blues recording an assist and serving 39 penalty minutes.  The Melfort, Saskatchewan native was signed by the Blues as a free agent on October 9, 2008. 

 

Hensick, 25, has dressed in 12 games for the Blues this season tallying one goal and one assist.  In 52 games with Peoria, the 5’10, 190-pound forward leads the Rivermen with 61 points including 18 goals and 43 assists.  The Lansing, Michigan native was acquired by the Blues from Colorado in exchange for Julian Talbot on June 17, 2010.

 

Shields, 20, has spent the past four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Erie Otters where he has made 250 appearances, amassing 67 points including 15 goals and 52 assists.  This season, the 6’3, 218-pound defenseman has played in 61 games ranking second among Erie defensemen with a career high 27 points (six goals, 21 assists).  The Buffalo, New York native was drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 168th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
