Rivermen Announce 2011-12 Season Schedule
Published: August 18th 2011 @ 4:54 PM

The Peoria Rivermen and the American Hockey League announced today their 2011-12 regular season schedule.  The 30th season of professional hockey in Peoria will begin on Oct. 8, when the Rivermen host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. to kick off the new campaign.

Peoria will once again have a fan friendly schedule, for their sixth season in the AHL, which consists of 30 of their 38 home games being played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Following a schedule modification plan announced in April, each of the league’s 30 clubs will play 76 games, 38 at home and 38 on the road. The AHL’s playing calendar has been extended by one week and all sequences in which teams play four games in five nights have been eliminated from the schedule.

The AHL will also institute a revised Calder Cup Playoff format in 2011-12. With the league divided into two conferences of three divisions each, eight teams from each conference will qualify for the postseason (with division winners seeded first through third).

Rivermen fans will have an opportunity to see 13 of the 14 opponents in the Western Conference this season, with Rochester being the lone exception.  The newest member of the Western Conference, the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes), will make their first appearance in Peoria on Feb. 11 and return three additional times throughout the season.

Milwaukee and Rockford will once again be Peoria’s most common opponent as the Rivermen will face both teams 12 times each.  Peoria will play the other two members of the Midwest Division, Chicago and Charlotte, eight times each.

Full and partial season ticket plans are on sale now while individual game tickets will go on sale at a later date.  For more information on the many Rivermen ticket options visit www.rivermen.net, call (309) 676-1040, or stop by the Rivermen offices located inside the Peoria Civic Center.
