The Peoria Rivermen have announced their 13-man protected player rights list for the 2014-15 season. In addition, defenseman Joe Schiller (pictured) has been traded to the Knoxville Ice Bears as the future considerations to complete a trade involving Tyler Fernandez from Aug. 22, 2013.

The protected player rights list indicates the 13 players that cannot be signed by another Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) team. Those include:

Goaltenders Kyle Rank and Kevin Carr, defenseman Charlie Carkin, Nick Wheeler, Mike MacIntyre and forwards Fernandez, Steve Morra, Chris Greene, Kyle Watson, Nick Prockow, Parker Stanfield, Garrett Vermeersch and Taylor Larsen.

Therefore, defenseman Adam Feniak, Jarrett Rush, Ben Oskroba, Cole Ruwe and forwards Matt Viola, Dean Yakura, Adam Hartley and Alex Mentink have become free agents.

Schiller, 25, appeared in 45 games for the Rivermen last season and collected 29 points (1g, 28a) and 12 penalty minutes. His 28 assists were second on the club to Vermeersch, who led the team with 30 helpers. The Detroit Lakes, Minnesota native also spent 30 days on the injured reserve during the second half of the season with an upper body injury.

Prior to joining the Rivermen, the 6’1, 185-pound defenseman spent the 2012-13 season with the August RiverHawks, where he produced six points (2g, 4a) and two penalty minutes in 20 games. He also recorded one assist in eight games with the Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL) that year.

Fernandez, 25, was dealt from Knoxville to Peoria on Aug. 22, 2013 for defenseman Jason Price and future considerations. In 12 games with the Rivermen, Fernandez recorded 11 points (5g, 6a) and 12 penalty minutes before he was promoted to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) on Nov. 26, 2013.
