Rivermen Place Klecha on Injured Reserve

Second-year pro left Saturday’s game with upper-body injury and did not return

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen announced Monday that the team has placed leading scorer Dakota Klecha on 14-day Injured Reserve with an upper body injury suffered during Peoria’s February 4 game against Mississippi.

At the 12:49 mark of the first period, Klecha and RiverKings winger Ryan Marcuz were each issued 5-minute majors for fighting. After the fight, Klecha was taken to the Rivermen locker room to receive medical attention, and he did not return to the ice for the remainder of the game.

This season for the Rivermen, the Taylor, Michigan native is the only Rivermen player to skate in all 32 games thus far, and his 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) are tied for the team high. Klecha is currently in his second professional season after he played 40 games last year for Orik Opole in Poland’s top professional league. Klecha scored 13 goals and assisted on 20 others in his first pro season before returning stateside.

The Rivermen return to action this weekend with a trio of games on the road, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The weekend will mark Peoria’s first trip to the Pensacola Bay Center since falling in Game 3 of the President’s Cup Finals last May. After this weekend the Rivermen will return home to Carver Arena for three games against the Knoxville Ice Bears February 17-19, with Chicago Cubs mascot Clark and a Homefield Energy T Shirt Giveaway Friday and an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Saturday. Tickets for all remaining home games can be purchased over the phone through the Rivermen office at (309)-676-1040 or through the Toyota Box Office at the Peoria Civic Center.
