Pszenyczny Returns to Rivermen Blueline

Veteran defender posted career-high 28 assists in 47 games during 2016-17

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen have announced today that the team has re-signed veteran defenseman Dave Pszenyczny to a training camp contract for the team’s preseason camp. The veteran defenseman returns for his third season on the Rivermen blueline after he posted three goals and a career-high 28 assists in 47 games last season before adding six helpers in seven postseason contests.

Pszenyczny, 32, began his pro career with a pair of games for the Muskegon Fury in the now-defunct United Hockey League during the 2004-05 season before returning to the OHL to finish his junior career. After joining the pro ranks for good in 2006-07, playing four games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies and 41 more for the ECHL Phoenix Roadrunners, the Sterling, MI native spent the 2007-08 season in the ECHL before carving out a six-year, 347-game Central Hockey League career with Bossier-Shreveport and Missouri, winning a championship with the former in 2010-11.

The veteran returned to the ECHL with Tulsa in 2014-15, and played four games with ECHL Idaho in 2015-16 before joining the Rivermen in late December. Since joining Peoria, Pszenyczny has notched 14 goals, 44 assists, and a +33 rating in 83 career SPHL regular-season games, adding three goals and eight assists in 15 postseason contests.

“Getting Dave back is a tremendous shot in the arm for our defense as we build a team for this season,” said Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience on and off the ice, his leadership in the (locker) room and on the bench is outstanding, and he knows what it takes to win a championship at the professional level. He’s a consummate pro, and having him will be huge as we continue to pursue our goal of bringing a President’s Cup to Peoria.”
