Rivermen Sign Defenseman Neville Monday

Rookie winger King traded to Roanoke

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen announced today that the team has signed defenseman Nick Neville to a contract. In an additional move, Sunday, the team dealt rookie winger Lane King to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs in exchange for future considerations.

Neville, 25, returns to Peoria after he was included on Peoria’s 13-player offseason protected list. He began last season with the Rivermen, logging four assists in 10 games before he was loaned to ECHL South Carolina November 20. Between the Stingrays and the Reading Royals last year, the Bloomfield Hills, MI native saw action in 39 regular-season ECHL games and three playoff contests, recording two assists for the Royals.

“We’re very glad to get Nevs back this year,” said Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel. “He’s a guy we’ve had here the last couple seasons and he’s earned long stints at the next level. He’s a well-rounded defenseman who plays well in all three zones and having him back will be a big boost to our defense unit.”

King, meanwhile, departs the Rivermen after playing in three games this season, scoring his first pro goal October 26 at Quad City. Last season as a senior with NCAA D-III Lawrence University, the Waunakee, WI native recorded 37 points in 27 games.

The Rivermen return to action this Friday and Saturday when they take on the Fayetteville Marksmen at Carver Arena, with both games set to begin at 7:15 PM. Saturday is Peoria’s annual Military Appreciation Night, presented by the Illinois Air National Guard. The Rivermen are offering all military service members, past and present, a free ticket to the game with a valid ID. The game is also CityLink Peoria’s annual Stuff-A-Bus food drive collection game, with the first 1,000 fans bringing a nonperishable food item receiving a free Rivermen T-shirt. Finally, Saturday is Peoria’s first Chicago Blackhawks Night of the season, with the Blackhawks Ice Girls in attendance. Tickets for both weekend games are available by calling the Rivermen at (309)-676-1040 or by going to the Rivermen office at the Peoria Civic Center.
