Kevin McDonald announced today that right wing
Peter Ferraro has been acquired on loan from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. McDonald also announced that in exchange for Ferraro’s loan, defenseman
Stephen Wood has been recalled from loan from the ECHL Alaska Aces and loaned to the Sound Tigers.
Ferraro, 34, has 20 points (10g, 10a) in 37 games with 37 penalty minutes (PIM) for the Sound Tigers this season. The 13-year professional, who earned the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the 1999 Calder Cup Playoffs for the Providence Bruins’ Calder Cup Championship Team, has played 92 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound native of Port Jefferson, New York, spent last season in the Duetsche Eishockey Liga (German Bundesliga – Elite League) with the DEG Metro Stars, posting 27 points (13g, 14a) in 41 games with 98 PIM. Ferraro’s twin brother, Chris, plays for the West Division’s San Antonio Rampage.
Wood, the 25-year-old professional in his third season, had two assists in 16 games for the Rivermen this year, while collecting 14 points (8g, 6a) in 25 games for the Aces.
On Saturday, March 3, the Rivermen host the Houston Aeros at 7:00 p.m. in the first of two in a row between the clubs at Carver Arena. It is Peoria Air National Guard Team Poster Night for the first 5,000 fans. There’s also a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, presented by Kelleher’s Irish Pub, and the team will wear special St. Patrick’s Day jerseys to be auctioned off after the game. On Sunday, March 4, the teams will do battle again at 4:00 p.m. It is an Insight Family Day with four (4) tickets, four (4) Cokes, four (4) hot dogs and four (4) bags of Kitchen Cooked chips for just $38. U.S. Cellular’s 25 Greatest Rivermen of All-Time continues with Trevor Baker player cards to the first 2,500 fans; Baker will also appear and sign autographs.
