Left Wing Justin Maiser Returns to Peoria

General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald of the Peoria Rivermen, proud new primary affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, announced today that left wing Justin Maiser has signed a contract with the team.

Maiser, 22, will skate in just his second professional season in 2005-06. He spent the majority of his 2004-05 rookie campaign with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL. In 59 ECHL games last year, the six-foot, 190-pound winger recorded 32 points on 19 goals and 13 assists and drew 87 minutes in penalties. Maiser also had the opportunity to play in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, picking up one goal and two penalty minutes in nine outings.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Maiser’s amateur career took him to Boston and Seattle. In 76 total games over the course of two seasons at Boston University, he tallied 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) and accumulated 131 penalty minutes. A fifth-round selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Maiser spent the 2003-04 season with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. His totals in 68 contests as a Thunderbird include 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) and 119 minutes in penalties.

The Rivermen are a proud new member of the AHL. Founded in 1936, the AHL now serves as the primary development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams and will celebrate its 70th anniversary season in 2005-06.
