Rivermen to Ring in New Year Against IceHogs

Season series: Tonight marks the ninth of 12 meetings this season
between the Peoria Rivermen and Rockford IceHogs. The Rivermen have won five of
eight meetings against the IceHogs this season including each of the last two
by a score of 5-2. Peoria is 26-14-1-4 all-time against Rockford since joining
the AHL in 2005-06.
Big story: It’s safe to
say these two teams are familiar with each other. With eight meetings already
in the books since Oct. 9, the Rivermen have faced the IceHogs more than any
other opponent thus far. The previous eight meetings have generated a grand
total of 65 goals, an average of 8.125 per game. If the past provides any
indication, tonight’s game should feature plenty of scoring.
Team scope:
Rivermen: Peoria definitely
has momentum on its side after winning a 4-3 overtime thriller over the Grand
Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena last night.
Tyler Shattock and Cade Fairchild both scored in the first period before the Griffins countered with three goals within 4:54 in the second period. Center T.J. Hensick tallied his 11th goal of the season on a power play late in the third period to force overtime.
Defenseman Danny Syvret scored with just 11 seconds remaining in extra time to capture the win.
The Rivermen return to
Carver Arena tonight for the only home game during their AHL-leading eighth
three games in three days series this season.
IceHogs: Unlike Peoria, the IceHogs fell 4-3 in a shootout loss to the Charlotte
Checkers at the BMO Harris Bank Center last night.
The loss extended a four game losing streak and dropped Rockford’s record to 1-4-0-3 in their last eight games.
Tonight’s game marks the third and final of a three games in three days series for the IceHogs.
Who's hot: Shattock has scored a goal in three of his last five games, a streak that started in a 5-2 win over Rockford on Dec. 16. Shattock has now scored five goals this season, two more than he scored in 67 games last season.
