Movember Brings Mustaches Back to the Rivermen
November 2, 2012
Facial hair has been a hockey tradition for decades when the playoffs roll around but a new tradition, for an even greater purpose, has caught on in Peoria. For the second straight season, the Peoria Rivermen will grow mustaches in honor of “Movember” in an effort to raise funds and awareness for cancers affecting men.
Rivermen players will grow mustaches to transform themselves into walking billboards in order to raise conversation and elevate the level of understanding of the issues regarding men's health. Rivermen teammates participating in Movember include: Jake Allen, Chris Bruton, Taylor Chorney, Ian Cole, Stefan Della Rovere, Scott Ford, Mike McKenna, Anthony Nigro, Brett Ponich, Brent Regner, Tyler Shattock, David Shields, as well as assistant coach Scott Allen.
Pictures will be taken of their progress throughout the month and shared through the Rivermen Facebook account (www.facebook.com/peoririvermen).
Men are encouraged join the Rivermen in the hairy initiative. Register at www.movember.com and start with a clean-shaven face. For more details on the Peoria Rivermen participation and ways to contribute to “Movember”, please VISIT THE RIVERMEN MoSPACE PAGE.
Movember is an annual charity event during the month of November where men grow a moustache while raising funds and awareness for men’s health issues. The moustache is our ribbon, it’s the vehicle by which we raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, our commitment is to grow a moustache and change the face of men’s health.
