Rivermen Drop Close One in San Antonio

Jake Allen played a strong game in net, as he made 37 saves on 39 shots, but it wasn’t enough as the San Antonio Rampage beat the Peoria Rivermen 2-1 on Saturday night at the AT&T Center. Bracken Kearns broke a third period tie with a power-play goal that stood up as the game-winner.
The Rivermen registered 13 of their 23 shots in the game during the first period but didn’t crack Dov Grumet-Morris until the 8:44 mark of the second period. His sixth goal of the season came unassisted after he walked around a defender near the goal line and lifted it in on the glove-side.
David Marshall tied the game just 24 seconds later with his fourth goal of the year. Marshall found a rebound and slid the puck past Allen’s left leg. Roman Derlyuk and Eric Selleck earned assists on the play.
The Rampage scored a rare power-play goal at 5:49 of the third period. San Antonio entered the game with the worst power-play percentage in the league and tallied on the advantage for just the 10th time this year. Kearns deflected in a Colby Roback shot from the point for his eighth of the year.
Grumet-Morris made 22 saves on Peoria’s 23 shots, just one night after being held to a season-low 21 shots on goal in Oklahoma City. Peoria was 0-for-3 on the power play while the Rampage converted once on five chances.
