Score(Home/Away): 1-3 L
The
Hamilton Bulldogs scored three times in a 5:54 stretch of the second period to
pave their way to a 3-1 win over the Peoria Rivermen on Sunday afternoon at
Carver Arena. Graham Mink notched his
team-leading 24th goal of the season but the Bulldogs responded with
three unanswered goals to close out the game.
Peoria (38-29-2-5) remains in a fourth-place tie with the Chicago Wolves (37-28-3-6) and the Oklahoma City Barons (36-27-2-9) who both lost on Sunday as well.
Peoria opened up the scoring at 13:09 of the first period on Mink’s fourth goal in the past five games. Dean Arsene slid a puck along the blue line to Tyson Strachan who took a wrist shot from the right point that was tipped in front by Mink around Hamilton goaltender Drew MacIntyre.
Peoria took its 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but the second period of play was a different story. At the 7:42 mark, Hamilton’s Dustin Boyd evened the game on his 17th of the year. A bouncing puck in the high slot was golfed out of the air by former Rivermen Aaron Palushaj and tipped by Boyd just outside of the crease.
Less than 3 minutes later, Ryan Russell gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game at 10:12. Russell walked out of the corner and across the low slot and quickly backhanded a shot between the pads of Allen, who had lost his stick in some commotion just a few seconds before the goal. Hamilton’s J.T. Wyman added an insurance goal at the 13:36 mark to extend the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-1.
Allen recorded 25 saves in the loss while MacIntyre stopped 26 of 27 shots in the contest. Peoria finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play while the penalty kill went 4-for-5.
Peoria will head to San Antonio on Friday to open up its final road trip of the season. The Rivermen and Rampage will play at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday before Peoria heads to Milwaukee on Sunday. The games can be heard locally on 96.5 ESP Radio or online through www.rivermen.net.
