Levine Shines as Rivermen Dethrone RiverKings Saturday

Miglio nets lone goal in 1-0 win on home ice

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen scored in the second period and held on to a one-goal lead for the final 30 minutes to topple the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday night at Carver Arena. The win, Peoria’s first since a 4-1 victory at Evansville last Friday, improves the Rivermen to 7-4-1 on the season, two points out of first place before a weekend road trip to Fayetteville.

After a scoreless opening period, the Rivermen cracked the scoreless tie nearly halfway through the middle frame. After a face off in the Peoria zone, Rivermen defenseman Kevin Patterson corralled the puck, and slipped a pass to teammate Nick Miglio along the right-wing boards as he entered the RiverKings zone. Miglio flicked a shot towards the net that bounced off a Mississippi defender and knuckled in the air, up and over the shoulder of RiverKings netminder Tyler Green for the 1-0 lead, and eventual game winner, at 9:22 of the second period.

Rivermen goaltender Eric Levine stopped all 33 shots he faced to earn the win in net and improve to 6-1-0 on the season. The win is Levine’s fifth in a row, and his first SPHL shutout November 27, 2015.

Notes: With a secondary assist on Miglio’s goal, Peoria defenseman Brandon Rumble snapped a four-game pointless drought…Levine’s shutout is his first professional clean slate since February 5 as a member of the ECHL Colorado Eagles, a span of 42 outings…Rivermen winger Alec Hagaman was suspended prior to the game, and will be required to sit out two more contests…RiverKings defenseman and former Rivermen blueliner Don Olivieri was loaned before the game to ECHL Norfolk…The Rivermen return to action Friday, December 1st as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to visit the Marksmen at 6:00 CST…The broadcast of the game can be heard, starting with the pre-game show, at 5:40 p.m. at http://mixlr.com/peoria-rivermen/
