John Butler enters his first season as part owner of the Peoria Rivermen and his sixth year as owner of Central Illinois Arena Management, Inc., which manages the day-to-day operations for the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois. He is also a part owner and operator of the SPHL’s Bloomington Thunder.
During a career that spans more than 26 years, Butler has held a variety of positions in the sports and entertainment industry, including the former president of the Rivermen in the East Coast Hockey League. In 2003, he was selected as the ECHL’s Executive of the Year.
Butler, 51, has also worked as Director of Marketing/General Manager of the Peoria Chiefs Baseball Club (1985-1990) and Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs for Bradley University (1990-1998).
A Bloomington native, Butler graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1981 and earned a master’s degree in sports management from Western Illinois University in 1986. He currently resides in Bloomington with his wife, Lynda, and their two boys, Jack and Jimmy.
