Scoring Ace Greenberg Returns to Peoria on Eve of Camp

24-year-old posted 36 points in 35 games with Peoria last season

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen have announced the signing of second-year center Justin Greenberg, as well as the team’s inaugural 2018 training camp roster before the first official team practice takes place tomorrow morning at Carver Arena. The Rivermen are poised to begin training camp Wednesday with a 26-man roster, including 13 forwards, eight defensemen, and five goaltenders.

Greenberg returns to the Rivermen lineup after spending time in ECHL Atlanta’s training camp this year. The Dallas, TX native spent all of his rookie season with Peoria, where he tallied 36 points in 35 regular-season outings, adding three goals and three assists in seven playoff contests as he helped the Rivermen to their third straight President’s Cup Finals appearance.

“Getting Greenberg back was huge for us this year,” said Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel. “He’s a guy who combines a nonstop motor on the ice with a high hockey IQ and the skillset to play any of the three forward positions. He was a key piece for us last year at even strength, on the power-play, and killing penalties, and we’re thrilled to get him back again this season.”

The Rivermen are expected to announce a full training camp roster tomorrow morning, during the team’s first official practice at the Peoria Civic Center. Peoria is required by league rule to trim their roster to 22 by Sunday, October 14, and be down to 19 fully contracted players by next Wednesday, October 17. Peoria will play a preseason game against the Quad City Storm at Carver Arena this Saturday, 10/13 before October 20’s regular-season opener at the Taxslayer Center in Moline, IL. Peoria’s regular-season home schedule is set to begin Friday, November 2, also against the Storm.
