Rivermen Cruise to 3-0 Win in Fayetteville Friday

Parks earns shutout while Siiro notches first pro goal

Fayetteville, NC – The Peoria Rivermen scored 6:57 into the first period and never looked back Friday night as they topped the Fayetteville Marksmen 3-0 at the Crown Coliseum. The win, Peoria’s second in a row, lifts them to 8-4-1 on the season before tomorrow night’s rematch in Fayetteville.

The Rivermen opened the scoring with a tally early in the game’s first period. With the puck being fought for behind the Fayetteville net, Rivermen winger Will Smith worked it free from a scrum and sent it to the front of the net. With a mad scramble ensuing in front of the Marksmen net, Peoria winger Ryan Siiro batted it past Fayetteville netminder Peter Di Salvo for a 1-0 Peoria lead at 6:57 of the period.

The Rivermen doubled their lead with another even-strength goal later in the first period. With play continuing in the Fayetteville zone, the Rivermen worked the puck to the point, where Peoria defenseman Dave Pszenyczny’s drive was deflected by Rivermen winger Cody Dion past Di Salvo and into the net for a 2-0 Rivermen lead at 13:28 of the period.

Peoria earned an insurance tally early in the game’s third period. With the puck at the right point of the Marksmen zone, Peoria center Christian Horn sent a pass to the right-wing circle, where Rivermen forward Jacob Barber collected it and put a wrist shot past Di Salvo for the eventual 3-0 final score at 5:58 of the third period.

Peoria goaltender Tyler Parks stopped all 19 shots he faced in goal to earn his first win of the season for the Rivermen. The shutout is Parks’ first since a March 4 blanking of Roanoke last season, and marks his first victory between the pipes since he bested Fayetteville in Peoria last April 2.
