Peoria expected to add more before Wednesday morning game in Evansville

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Rivermen announced on Monday that the team has waived goaltender Matt Grogan and forward Alexander Taulien, and signed goaltender Troy Davenport with more moves expected before the team travels to Evansville, Indiana for a Wednesday morning game against the Thunderbolts.

Grogan started last Friday’s game in Macon, and allowed three goals on 11 shots before he was replaced by rookie Tyler Green, who stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn the win in relief. Grogan becomes the third goaltender released by the Rivermen this season after Peoria had five netminders see action in training camp.

The Rivermen also announced Monday that the team has waived forward Alexander Taulien. The 6-foot-4 220 pounder played in three games for the Rivermen, failing to record a point while registering 11 penalty minutes, all in the Rivermen’s October 22 game against Huntsville.

Additionally, the Rivermen signed goaltender Troy Davenport to a contract Monday. Davenpot last played in the semi-pro Australian Ice Hockey League this summer, where he recorded a league-best 2.08 GAA. The 31-year-old native of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, played collegiately at Cornell University from 2004-08, and skated with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers and Des Moines Buccaneers from 2003-06, helping the Bucs to a Clark Cup championship in 2006 when he posted a 2.62 GAA and a .917 save percentage in 36 regular-season games before logging a 1.83 GAA and a .932 saves rate in 11 postseason contests. The 6-foot-1 180-pound Davenport spent time with ECHL Tulsa but did not see game action in what is his first North American professional season after he played in parts of four pro seasons in various European leagues.

Peoria is expected to make additional roster moves before the team returns to action Wednesday morning in Evansville for the first ever meeting between the Rivermen and Thunderbolts. Peoria will then return home for a pair of 7:05 PM games against the Pensacola Ice Flyers this Friday and Saturday at Carver Arena.
