Rivermen Zobrist Appearance Postponed Due to Illness

Saturday game with Evansville will still include Teddy Bear Toss, Cubs giveaways

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Rivermen are sad to announce that due to an unforeseen illness that has prevented Ben Zobrist from traveling, this Saturday’s appearance at Carver Arena by the World Series MVP and Eureka native has been postponed. A make-up date is expected to be announced in the coming days, and fans are encouraged to keep their ticket stub from Saturday’s game and redeem it through the Toyota Box Office at the Peoria Civic Center for a free ticket to the night of the rescheduled appearance, or any other 2016-17 regular-season Rivermen home game.

“I am so sorry to have to postpone my two appearances in Central Illinois on Saturday that I was so looking forward to,” said Zobrist, whose “Pack the Park for the MVP” event in Eureka was also postponed. “I am not feeling well and will not be able to fly up to Illinois tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Saturday’s game will still be held as scheduled, and fans who wish to do so can use their ticket to the game Saturday, then redeem their used ticket stub for a ticket to the night of Ben’s rescheduled appearance, or any other 2016-17 Rivermen home game, at the Toyota Box Office at the Peoria Civic Center.

The Rivermen will still hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, donating all stuffed animals thrown on the ice after the first Rivermen goal to the Salvation Army. Fans are also still encouraged to wear their “Cubbie Blue” as Peoria celebrates the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs with Cubs memorabilia giveaways to lucky seat holders throughout the evening.

“We wish Ben a speedy recovery and can’t wait to welcome him to Carver Arena when the make-up date is announced,” said Rivermen co-owner Bart Rogers. “We want to make sure fans who were planning on coming out Saturday night can still enjoy a fun evening of Rivermen hockey, and can come back out for a complimentary game on us to see Ben and acknowledge his accomplishments on and off the playing field when his appearance can be rescheduled. Unfortunately sometimes things happen that are beyond our control, but we’re going to do everything within our power to make things right and ensure that our great fans have the best experience possible.”

Fans who purchased the Grand Slam Autograph Package are still encouraged to attend the November 26 game and hold on to their ticket stub to exchange for the game when Ben’s appearance is rescheduled. The red autograph line ticket will still be honored on the rescheduled date and should be kept until then. The food voucher included in the Grand Slam package will be honored and can be used at any game during the 2016-17 Rivermen regular season.

The Rivermen will still host the Evansville Thunderbolts tonight and tomorrow night, with both games at Carver Arena beginning at 7:05. Friday is the Rivermen’s Salvation Army Coats for Kids night, with fans invited to bring a new or gently used coat for donation to the Salvation Army of Peoria. Saturday is Peoria’s annual Teddy Bear Toss, with fans encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw onto the ice after the first Rivermen goal, with all collected items being donated to the Salvation Army.
