Rivermen Place Bremner on IR, Get Parks Back From ECHL Missouri

Peoria captain eligible to return February 1 after suffering upper-body injury

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen announced Wednesday morning that the team has placed veteran winger and team captain Dan Bremner on 21-day injured reserve after he suffered an upper-body injury at the end of the first period of last Saturday’s game at Mississippi. The team also announced Wednesday that they have received goaltender Tyler Parks back from his loan to ECHL Missouri, and have waived rookie goaltender Storm Phaneuf, allowing him to return to FHL Danville.

Bremner makes his first career trip to the injured reserve list after the veteran winger posted four goals and 10 assists in 20 games this season. Now in his sixth professional season, all in the SPHL, the Sarnia, Ontario native has skated in 270 career games, scoring 47 goals and assisting on 77 others while racking up 670 penalty minutes. The 30-year-old was named Peoria’s captain last season and has remained in that role ever since.

Parks returns to the Rivermen after he did not see any game action in his stint with ECHL Missouri. The Imperial, MO native saw action in eight games for the Rivermen, starting seven before he was loaned to the Mavericks. Parks went 4-1-2 in net for Peoria, recording a 1.97 GAA and a .929 save percentage for Peoria after playing the first four games of his pro career with Evansville.

Phaneuf departs the Rivermen roster for the second time this season, after he saw action in two games opening weekend, going 0-1-0 with a 5.08 GAA and a .786 saves rate before being released. The Gatineau, QC native then signed with the Federal Hockey League’s Danville Dashers, where he accrued a 10-2-0 record, and 1.89 GAA, and a .938 save percentage in 13 games before returning to Peoria. In his second stint with the Rivermen, Phaneuf went 0-1-1 in two starts, stopping 28 of 30 shots in a shootout loss to Mississippi on New Year’s Eve at Carver Arena before stopping 24 of 27 attempts on net in a regulation loss at Mississippi this past weekend.

The Rivermen return to action with a trio of home games this weekend, facing the Macon Mayhem Friday and Saturday before taking on the Evansville Thunderbolts on Sunday afternoon. Friday’s game will include a Pekin Insurance Youth Jersey giveaway to the first 750 kids 12 & under. Saturday is Peoria Rivermen Hall of Fame Night, with former Rivermen defenseman and 99-00 ECHL Kelly Cup champion Dan Hodge set to be inducted into the Rivermen Hall of Fame. Sunday is the season’s first PNC Family Fun Sunday, with pregame inflatables, face painting, and balloon animals in the Great Hall and a postgame player autograph session on the concourse.
