Rivermen Place Dion on IR, Olivieri Returns from ECHL Missouri
Leading goal-scorer Dion eligible to return to active roster April 9
Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen announced Friday afternoon that the team has placed winger Cody Dion on the 14-day Injured Reserve, retroactive to March 26, with a lower-body injury, and returned defenseman Don Olivieri from his loan to the ECHL’s Missouri Mavericks. Both moves come before Peoria’s three-game weekend clash with the Fayetteville FireAntz at Carver Arena.
Dion heads to the Injured Reserve for the first time this season after skating in 48 of Peoria’s 51 games this season, scoring a team-leading 24 goals and assisting on 15 others, racking up 96 penalty minutes to go with a +11 rating. Dion is eligible to return to the Rivermen roster April 9, prior to the SPHL’s deadline for playoff rosters to be submitted.
Additionally, the Rivermen have announced the return of defenseman Don Olivieri from his loan to ECHL Missouri. Olivieri returns to the Rivermen lineup after an 11-game stretch for the Missouri Mavericks in which he tallied three assists and a +1 rating to go with 10 penalty minutes. This season in the SPHL between Peoria and Mississippi, the Philadelphia, PA native has seen action in 37 games, posting 12 goals and 11 assists with a +5 rating and 36 PIM. Olivieri’s 12 goals tie him for second among all SPHL defenseman this season.
The Rivermen return to action tonight at Carver Arena to kick off a three-game series with the Fayetteville FireAntz. Tonight’s and tomorrow’s games start at 7:05 PM, and Sunday’s series finale begins at 3:05.
