Kalisz Activated from Injured Reserve Monday

Third-year pro has logged 19 points in 16 games with Peoria this season

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Rivermen announced Monday that the team has activated Joe Kalisz from the 21-day injured reserve. In additional moves, the Rivermen signed winger Mitchell McPherson to an Amateur Tryout Contract and placed veteran winger Mike Gurtler on the 21-day IR with an upper-body injury suffered in Peoria’s 3-1 loss at Knoxville Saturday.

Kalisz re-joins the Rivermen after two stints on the 21-day injured reserve with an upper-body ailment suffered during the team’s late-January series at Pensacola. In 16 games with the Rivermen this season, Kalisz has recorded eight goals and 11 assists, including a +13 plus/minus rating and three game-winning goals. In a 15-game stint with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners, Kalisz posted four assists and a +2 rating.

McPherson signs his third three-game amateur tryout contract after the Peoria native posted a goal, an assist, and a fight in his first five games with the Rivermen. McPherson finished a four-year collegiate career with Hamline University this season, posting six goals and four assists in 25 contests.

Gurtler makes his first trip to the injured reserve since the 2015-16 season after the Rochester, NY native recorded 15 goals and 16 assists in 48 games this season, including eight power-play points and two game-winning goals. Last season Gurtler came out of a one-year retirement to tally a career-high 21 goals in 55 regular-season games for the Rivermen, adding five goals and two assists in seven postseason outings.
