Rivermen Release Bremner, Bring Back Misuraca

Peoria captain waived on eve of weekend rematch with Huntsville

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Rivermen on Friday afternoon announced that the team has waived veteran captain Dan Bremner. Bremner, who was in his third season with Peoria, was named the Rivermen captain prior to last season, and continuously served in that role until his release Friday.

The move frees up a roster spot for returning defenseman Frank Misuraca, who was released from his loan to ECHL Cincinnati on Thursday and cleared ECHL waivers Friday morning. Misuraca played two games for the Rivermen opening weekend before his loan to Cincinnati, where he skated in five games.

“This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make as a coach,” said Rivermen bench boss Jean-Guy Trudel of the move to cut his captain. “Brems has been an outstanding leader for this team on and off the ice, and we wish him all the best in whatever his future holds. Obviously we wish we could keep him on our roster, but sometimes you have to do what’s best for the team over the long-run.”

The Rivermen return to action tomorrow night at Carver Arena when they host the Huntsville Havoc at 7:05. The game will be Peoria’s Military/Veteran Appreciation Night, with the Rivermen wearing specialty camo/USA-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.

Group, Season, and single-game tickets for Peoria's 35th season of professional hockey, presented by Midwest Orthopaedic Center, are on sale now at the Rivermen office, located at 201 S.W. Jefferson Street, or over the phone at (309) 676-1040. For the latest Rivermen news and notes, follow online at www.rivermen.net or through Facebook (www.facebook.com/PeoriaRivermen) - Twitter (https://twitter.com/Peoria_Rivermen)
