City of Peoria to Honor Late Rivermen Owner

Portion of Jefferson Street to be renamed “Bruce Saurs Way” before November 25 game

Peoria, IL – The City of Peoria, in conjunction with the Peoria Rivermen and Peoria Civic Center, have announced plans this week to honor late Rivermen owner Bruce Saurs by renaming a stretch of road in downtown Peoria “Bruce Saurs Way”. The run of SW Jefferson Avenue from Fulton Street to William Krumpf Boulevard will be renamed in a ceremony November 25 to honor the late Rivermen owner and his contributions to professional hockey in Peoria.

“This is such a great honor and a great way for the city of Peoria to memorialize everything Mr. Saurs did for our team and everything he meant to the community,” said Rivermen CEO Bart Rogers. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this day and moment with the Saurs family, my only wish is that Bruce could be here to pull the covering off and see his name on that street sign.”

The street will be renamed in a brief ceremony in the Peoria Civic Center Great Hall beginning at 10 AM Saturday, followed by the official unveiling of the street sign outside the Rivermen offices at the Civic Center. The event will be attended by members of the Saurs family, Peoria City Council, and the entire Rivermen team and staff, with members of the public also welcome and invited to attend.

Group, single game, and season tickets for Peoria's 36th season of professional hockey presented by Midwest Orthopaedic Center are on sale at the Toyota Box Office in the Peoria Civic Center, or by phone at the Rivermen office, located at 201 S.W. Jefferson Street, or over the phone at (309) 676-1040. For the latest Rivermen news and notes, follow online at www.rivermen.net or through Facebook (www.facebook.com/PeoriaRivermen) - Twitter(https://twitter.com/Peoria_Rivermen)
