Rivermen Third Period Heroics Sink Marksmen 4-1

FAYETTEVILLE, NC –  It required some third-period heroics, but the Rivermen were once again able to prevail on the road against Fayetteville for their seventh consecutive win on Saturday night at the Crown Coliseum.

The game got off a strong start for Peoria as they were able to get the first goal of the game as JM Piotrowski was able to direct a rolling puck to the net and found its way in for his fourth goal in three games. But the Marksmen responded with a flurry of shots and chances in the first period and were able to get on the board with just one second to play in the first period to tie the game 1-1.

The second period saw all kinds of chances at both ends and both teams with opportunities on the power play but no one was able to break the 1-1 tie.

It was in the third period that the game turned as, at the midway point, Alec Hagaman found himself in on a breakaway. Hagaman skated right up into the slot and fired a quick shot low. The shot was saved but produced a rebound off of the bad that Hagaman buried into the back of the net to record his fifth multi-point game in seven nights. It also marked his 380’th career SPHL point, making him fifth all-time in the league.

Peoria added on two more empty net goals by Austin Wisely and Ben Assad to put the game on ice and capitalize on the Rivermen’s 4-1 victory. The win marks Peoria’s seventh straight in the month of January as they tighten their hold on first place in the SPHL. The Rivermen will look to end January on a high note as they face off against the Marketmen for one final contest on Sunday afternoon. Face-off is set for 3:00 ET.
