Rivermen Stonewalled by Storm 1-0

PEORIA, IL–  There is an old saying that you can’t win them all… But there are some losses that sting no matter how well you played. Saturday night was one of those losses as the Peoria Rivermen fell 1-0 to the Quad City Storm at Carver Arena.

The Rivermen thought they had the first goal of the game on a net-mouth scramble but despite the puck crossing the line, the goal was waved off due to the official losing sight of the puck. Quad City came back on the ensuing shift and netted the first goal of the game off of a deflected point shot to take a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.

Despite four power plays for Peoria, and 8-4 shots on goal advantage in the second period, the Rivermen were held off the board. It was a similar story in the third period. Despite a plethora of chances and several power-plays Peoria could not find the back of the net and was shut out, for the first time since February of 2020, 1-0 by the Quad City Storm. Netminder Kevin Resop made 32 saves in the effort, becoming the first goaltender to shut out the Rivermen since Evansville’s Brian Billet completed the feat on February 7, 2020, in Evansville.

The Rivermen will have a quick turnaround tonight as they welcome the Evansville Thunderbolts to Carver Arena on Sunday afternoon. Face-off is set for 3:15 pm for the final regular season matchup this season between the two rivals.
