The Peoria Rivermen began play as the Peoria Prancers in the IHL during the 1982-83 season, and have been operating continuously ever since. After two years as the Prancers, the team switched names for good to the Rivermen, and went on to win the IHL's Turner Cup in their first season under the new moniker. Following another Turner Cup in 1991 and an ECHL Kelly Cup in 2000, and now the 2022 Presidents Cup Champions the Rivermen have proven to be one of the most successful and enduring franchises in all of Minor Pro Hockey. Now entering our ninth season in the SPHL, the Rivermen look forward to more continued success on and off the ice in Peoria.

Spencer Kennedy Called up to ECHL Atlanta

PEORIA, IL – The Rivermen announced on Wednesday that forward Spencer Kennedy has accepted a call-up to the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL.

Kennedy played in 13 games for the Peoria Rivermen after playing in 4 games with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs to start the season. The native of Lethbridge, Alberta had three points (one goal, two assists) and 76 penalty minutes this season.

Kennedy is Peoria’s second call up to the ECHL this season, the first being Joseph Widmar who was also called up to the Atlanta Gladiators this season. The Peoria Rivermen are on the road on Saturday against the Evansville Thunderbolts before returning to Peoria on Sunday for a second game against Evansville at 3:15 pm.
